ISSUES

20M Slavic-Americans reside in the USA. Together they represent one of the largest voting blocs in the USA yet Slavic Americans go unnoticed by politicians and governments.

The Slavic Heritage Coalition is attempting to educate and empower Americans of Slavic descent about social, political and economic opportunities available to them by organizing information and enhancing intercultural communication through a unified Slavic-American community.

We hope to unite all Slavs by facilitating growth and strength within the community by conserving culture, preserving heritage, and encouraging travel and business within their home countries.  This can all be done by promoting awareness within the Slavic American community.  We also hope to gain recognition of Slavic leaders and icons so as to illuminate Slavic holidays.

We hope to provide opportunities that previously did not exist.  We want to provide networking opportunities for organizations and individuals, and to create fundraising opportunities, as well as academic scholarships and grants for students within the community through connections with academic institutions.

We also want to promote information to Slavic-Americans by creating an information-exchange forum of Slavic resources that will ultimately serve to educate the general public about relevant issues.  SHC will provide announcements, listings, and information that will aim to trigger growth for Slavic businesses and communities within the United States.

The SHC will also serve as an effective source of communication between all Slavic-Americans.  It will enact social change amongst them by strengthening their identity as a community.  It will also promote and enable communication between Slavic organizations and those who wish to gain knowledge about the community.

SHC hopes to encourage all interested Slavic-Americans to participate in our 2006 Slavic Heritage Survey to fulfill our goals of creating an identifiable minority that will be recognizable and visible in the domestic and international arenas.
